Why does CYA (cyanuric acid) need to be around 50 ppb?
Cyanuric acid (CYA), often called stabilizer or conditioner, helps protect chlorine from being destroyed by UV rays in sunlight. In moderate amounts, it’s essential to keep chlorine working strong in the pool. But when stabilizer levels rise too high—often due to heavy use of stabilized chlorine tablets—it becomes a major water-quality problem. With too much CYA levels about 90, it actually prevents Chlorine from working well and buries itself into the plaster of your pool.
